Select the Right Audio

Everyone's TV setup is different.  Some have their DVD and Media Players plugged into the TV.  Some have their media platers built in

(Roku and Smart TVs).  Some have sound bars.  Some have a home theater AV Receiver (a Receiver that can decode Dolby 5.1 and higher).

There are several types of Audio configurations, this document should help you determine the best settings.

Stereo – If you have 2 speakers, whether on the TV, or connected to a stereo receiver, or a stereo sound bar (2.0, no subwoofer) you

will want to select AAC sound on the movie or TV show settings shown below.

Dolby or Surround Sound – If you have 3 or more speakers (not TV speakers), on a sound bar (2.1, 3.0, 3.1, 4.0 5.1 and higher), or through.

an AV receiver that can do Dolby and Surround Sound, you will want to select on of the surround sound selections shown below.  This is normally the default

configuration.  Normally sound bars and AV receivers will down mix if needed (playing 5.1, but you have 3.1 sound)

Try different sound settings and choose what sounds best to you.

All of the TV and Movies on Plex have been set up to optimize the sound quality for Surround Sound/Dolby.

Dolby

If you have an Dolby capable AV Receiver or soundbar, the you can just use the default settings

Stereo

If you only have Stereo (build in speakers on TV, or 2.0 sound bar, or stereo receiver), you can choose AAC Stereo

Home Theater

If you have a Home Theater AV  Receiver, you can select the best quality  for your receiver.  This is the default.

Note that this movie has 3 selections.  If you are using a device that can play 5.1 surround, but does not play

TrueHD (in this example, then you would want to select AC3 5.1
